Coach Mike Perkins

Background
Mike was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri and started playing competitive volleyball at Northeast Missouri State University, now known as Truman State, on their Men's club team. He continued playing on USAV adult teams in the Heart of America region after college. His coaching career started in 1994 as Head Coach at Raytown High School where he also taught High School Chemistry. In addition to coaching the girls Varsity, he also supervised and developed both a JV and freshman team and coaches, organized numerous summer camps and clinics. He has completed many National coaching clinics learning from some of the sport’s top coaches including John Kessel, Carl McGown, Russ Rose and Hugh McCutcheon. Mike stepped away from coaching in 1999 when he left public education for corporate training.

Relocating to Charlotte in 2003 for work and then taking a job with Newell Rubbermaid in 2005, Mike returned to coaching in 2010 to start the volleyball program at Community School of Davidson High School, and is currently the Head Volleyball Coach. Mike experienced the Lake Norman Volleyball Club as a parent last year and is very excited to join the coaching staff. His family also has a passion for volleyball, Mike’s wife Jessie teaches High School Art and coaches the Middle School team at CSD and his daughters are avid school and LNVB club players.

Philosophy
Mike believes in teaching sound fundamentals in game-like situations, as “the game teaches the game.” He works hard to inspire a passion and love of the sport in each player, so they will continue playing all their life.
